Want to be a leader, have some fun and become more involved in the Professional Developers of Iowa (PDI) organization? The PDI Board of Directors has several slots open for upcoming three year terms - beginning November 2012. The board is responsible for the supervision, direction and guidance of the affairs of PDI. Elections will be held at this year's annual meeting on Thursday, September 27, 2012 during the PDI Fall Conference at the MidAmerica Center, Council Bluffs, Iowa. A nomination committee is being appointed, with current Vice President Brent Willett chairing the group. The committee will be accepting nominations through July 5, 2012.  Small Business News from IDEA

Jan Loyson has taken on the position of Small Business Assistance Coordinator at IEDA. Jan formerly served in the role of environmental liaison to small businesses assisting with regulatory issues and barriers. In her new role, Jan will act as a focal point of assistance to small business and IEDA partners. In addition, to assisting customers to identify the best fit IEDA resources, Jan will facilitate coordination with businesses and IEDA partners by helping them make connections to several organizations across the state that offer small business and entrepreneurial resources and expertise.  SourceLink Small Business Network Update

The Greater Des Moines Partnership has launched an online economic development tool to help small business owners and entrepreneurs find resources via a "one-stop shop." Central Iowa Sourcelink went live on Monday, May 21. It provides small businesses with assistance information online or it will direct them to community partners and programs that help entrepreneurs start, sustain and grow their businesses. The organization led the development of the Internet resource in response to a recommendation included in the Capital Crossroads regional economic development vision plan to increase support for small business and entrepreneurs.

 International Trade Office at the IEDA

 RAGBRAI 2012 as a Statewide Fam Tour

The Iowa Economic Development Authority is hosting a RAGBRAI team this year, primarily using the event to showcase Iowa to site selection consultants and prospects and to serve as general business ambassadors to all participating riders. The IEDA goal is to deliver an amazing and authentic experience for our prospects through interaction with Iowa's business owners, company tours and networking opportunities. Our team of approximately 10-20 persons will consist of both economic development sales folks and prospects.

 New Iowa City Industrial Park Gains 'Shovel-Ready' Certification

A 173-acre area of land on the east side of Iowa City has received "shovel-ready" certification that is is expected to make it more attractive to developers with tight project timetables. Iowa City Area Development said the land in Iowa City's Wind Energy Supply Chain Campus is the third to be designated under the Certified Shovel Ready Iowa program. A certification letter was presented to Iowa City Mayor Matt Hayek by Jonathan Gemmen of Austin Consulting, the third-party certification party.

 Iowa "Old Friends" to visit China at invitation of Chinese VP Xi Jinping

A group of Iowans, fondly referred to as "Old Friends" by Chinese VP Xi Jinping, will visit China on a whirlwind tour from May 29-June 5. The group is traveling to China at the invitation of the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries under the office of VP Xi Jinping. They will visit various sites including the Great Wall of China. During their stay, they will participate in a reunion banquet with VP Xi Jinping.
