 Workforce Housing Tax Credit Draft Copy
For Your Information and Comment:


The proposed Workforce Housing Tax Credit administrative rules will be presented to the Iowa Economic Development Authority Board on August 22, 2014. The proposed rules are based on House File 2448 passed this legislative session that replaces the Housing Enterprise Zone program. If approved the IEDA Board, the proposed administrative rules will be formally published for the public input process. By providing these draft rules prior to formally starting the rule making process we hope to collect input in a more timely fashion to keep the rules process moving and have the program up and running as soon as possible.

 Iowa STEM CAPS

Iowa's statewide STEM initiative invites schools and business collaboratives to propose STEM Centers for Advanced Professional Studies (CAPS) that place high-schoolers in work settings to solve real challenges while completing coursework. Modeled after the Northland CAPS, planning/implementation grants of up to $25,000 will be provided this fall to a handful of new partners of the Governor's STEM Advisory Council. The Minneapolis-Saint Paul, MN 2014 CEcD Exam was held in conjunction with IEDC's 2014 Spring Conference. Ten new CEcDs emerged from the CEcD exam held on May 31-June 1.  White House Rural Council Made in Rural America Regional Forum
August 8th, 2014 at Cornell College in Mount Vernon, IA


On behalf of the White House Rural Council's Made in Rural America export and investment initiative, we are pleased to invite you to participate in a regional forum on expanding international market opportunities. This forum will help rural firms understand ways to grow their business by finding new customers overseas or selling more to their existing international customers. Hosted by the National Association of Counties, USDA Rural Development and the Cedar Rapids Metro Economic Alliance, the half day forum will take place starting at 1:30 on August 8th at Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa.  Muscatine Earns Blue Zones Certification

Members of the Blue Zones Project of Muscatine celebrated that beginning Tuesday night, as a crowd of more than 50 project volunteers, residents, and city and business leaders learned that Muscatine had officially earned certification as a Blue Zones Community.

 Company Asks Landowners in Delaware, Buchanan Counties for Space to Place Turbines

Delaware and Buchanan county farmers face a big decision.

RPM Access wants to put up 100 wind turbines on land shared by the two counties. Monday night, developers presented residents with details of the proposed 231-megawatt project.

"We have only been at this about a week. We are going to call it the Independence Wind Farm," said RPM Access Land Developer Kirk Kraft.

 Cedar Rapids Airport Gets $6.1 Million Federal Grant
Will partially fund terminal modernization

The Cedar Rapids Airport Commission has been awarded a $6.1 million grant by the U.S. Department of Transportation to partially fund a four-year passenger terminal modernization project at The Eastern Iowa Airport.

The entitlement grant will be issued as a multiyear grant with $3,337,391 in fiscal 2014 funding. The remaining $2,714,099 of the entitlement will be added by amendment subject to future appropriations through fiscal 2015.

 Standard Distribution Co. Will Provide Rail Service with New Warehouse

The Cedar Falls City Council has approved the construction of a new Standard Distribution Co. industrial warehouse along Rail Way in the Northern Cedar Falls Industrial Park along Leversee Road.

Currently, 475,000 square feet of agricultural, industrial and food-grade warehousing space is owned and operated by Standard Distribution Co. in Cedar Falls, with other operations in Nebraska and California.
