For several years now, PDI has included a focus on business retention and expansion (BRE) in our conferences and educational opportunities. Every economic development professional knows that BRE is a fundamental component of any economic development program. Yet, for various reasons, it remains one of the least recognized activities carried out by economic development organizations.
Last year, PDI introduced a new awards program to recognize local communities and organizations that are successfully implementing BRE programs. Through these awards, we learned about several successful efforts by local economic development organizations that can serve as a model for others in our industry. PDI will once again award four outstanding communities with BRE awards to be presented at the SMART Conference on May 2, 2013.
Through the BRE awards, PDI will recognize communities that stand out above the rest with successful initiatives. There are two award categories:
1. The Overall BRE Program Award will recognize communities/counties or regions that have established a successful, continuous BRE program in their area.
2. The Single Project (Issue) Success Award will recognize a community that successfully mobilized to retain and/or expand an existing business.
All PDI Members are welcome and encouraged to apply. Applications are due by March 15, 2013. More information can be found here.
