Governor Branstad, Lt. Governor Reynolds kick of Iowa Year of Manufacturing

As many of you may already know, advanced manufacturing makes up the largest single business sector of Iowa’s GDP.  More than 6,100 manufacturers contribute in excess of $29 billion to our state’s economy.  In recognition of this important industry, Governor Branstad and Lt. Governor Reynolds officially kicked off the Year of Manufacturing initiative last week.

The IEDA, in partnership with the Iowa Association of Business & Industry (ABI) and the Center for Industrial Research and Service (CIRAS) at Iowa State University have been tapped to lead a statewide collaborative effort to elevate and bolster the state’s thriving manufacturing sector.  With a focus on building a skilled workforce, promoting innovation and R&D and improving global competitiveness, the goal is to increase Iowa’s manufacturing GDP from $29 billion to $32 billion by 2022.  The activities planned in pursuit of achieving the initiative’s goal include building awareness of state resources via a statewide company call program.

As economic developers, you understand the impact advanced manufacturing plays in your respective communities.  We need you to join us in this important effort. In the coming weeks, you or your region’s marketing contact will be receiving information from IEDA’s Business Development team on how you can get involved, specifically in the company call component.

We are fortunate to have multiple agencies and organizations that offer multiple programs to support manufacturers. But sometimes, our existing companies aren’t aware of these. To facilitate that  conversation, we have created an online toolkit to showcase these programs all in one place. Via this comprehensive resource, we can educate our state’s manufacturing community on the resources available, helping them to bolster productivity and success.

As always, we appreciate your partnership and look forward to working with all of you.  In the meantime, don’t hesitate to contact IEDA if you have any questions or suggestions.
